CACTI is a series of medium sized acrylic paintings of cacti in bloom. I have been fascinated by the cacti for some time, their shape is so exotic to my northern mind. They thrive in harsh environments, patiently waiting for a moment of opportunity. Their symmetrical shape stands out against the chaos of nature. Coming out of the pandemic, these plants symbolized the “adapt and persevere” mentality. They bloom for a short time, each flower lasting only a day or two. The brevity of the cacti flowering compels me to record it, so that their moment of defiant beauty may be enjoyed forever.
